Art Explorations are a series of walks investigating artworks displayed in outdoor settings in London and beyond, created and led by Gail Astbury, public art enthusiast as well as a practitioner in her own right.
We’ve adapted to the times and are thrilled to be offering a guided public art tour for all to enjoy from home. The tour will be held on Zoom using Google Streetview, and will be recorded too. It will take approximately 60 minutes, and there will be a chance to ask questions during
the tour.
A mere one and half miles in length, this former railway line has been transformed into a linear park and outdoor gallery, capturing the imagination worldwide, and triggering mimics, not least in London*.
Closed due to the social distancing issues surrounding its inevitable narrow dimensions and its huge popularity, this virtual tour led by Gail Astbury will be one of the few ways to discover artworks that have been installed here since its opening in 2017.
So what can a Brit bring to the table when it comes to discovering public art in the centre of New York City? Gail has had a love affair with public art since graduation from Wimbledon School of Art in the 1980s. She has worked on mega-structures and huge installations, and has won commissions to create outdoor galleries in plenty of unusual places. For a long time, she has wanted to stride along the High Line and reveal the art and the art makers behind this popular destination. Join the scores off other enthusiasts who have joined Gail’s previous London Art Explorations to find out for yourself.
Since our previous outing along the High Line that took place in July, Gail has uncovered yet more intriguing artworks for you to enjoy!
*London’s mimics include The Tide, on the Greenwich Meridian (visited on Gail’s Greenwich Meridian to City Island tour – 24 June), The Camden High Line, The Peckham Coal Yards, the Great Eastern Parks Route to name but three.
After booking, you will receive a confirmation e mail (this may take a few hours). You will then receive details of the Zoom meeting vie e mail within 3 hours of the start of the tour – the email will include a link to the virtual tour.
