Opening our new season of Urban Forest Explorations, to coincide with a new book from Paul Wood: London Tree Walks. Paul is the author of ‘London is a Forest’ (2019) and ‘London’s Street Trees‘ (one of the Guardian’s Nature Books of 2017) and the Great Trees of London Map (2020). We entice you to delve into A Brief History of Trees in London.
There are 8.5 million trees in London, roughly one for every Londoner. Many are remarkable, some are very old indeed, while others are mere saplings. There are remnants from past landscapes to marvel at, grand trees planted to enhance architectural schemes and others planted simply to improve the city’s environment.
In this virtual tour of London Paul Wood, author of a small spinney of books on the capital’s trees, will illustrate the story of the city’s trees from centuries-old veterans to twenty-first-century plantings shaping today’s cityscape. Along the way he’ll guide us through Jacobean, Georgian, Victorian and Edwardian urban treescapes.
This 45 – 60 minute tour is guaranteed to make you see the city in a whole new way!
