Meet the authors who are writing about walking and the landscapes through which we walk, at walk · listen · create’s Walking Writers Salons of which this is the third. We are delighted to have author Geoff Nicholson for our December Salon, talking about his approach to writing.

“A writer who walks and a walker who writes” is how Geoff modestly describes himself. He has written a lot of books including a couple of novels about walking: Bleeding London (Shortlisted for the Whitbread Prize) and The Miranda.

His non-fiction titles include The Lost Art of Walking and Walking in Ruins.

His latest book is The Suburbanist subtitled ‘A Personal Account and Ambivalent Celebration of Life in the Suburbs with Field Notes.’ He says that it is not a walking book per se but the ‘field trips’ involved a lot of walking around and exploring suburban estates.

He is also currently crowdfunding a book titled Walking on Thin Air, a book about walking and mortality, a subject that’s been rather forced on him by a recent diagnosis of leukaemia.

To book – please visit our sister WalkListenCreate website – tickets €3-€5

We interviewed Geoff for Talking Walking back in March 2010 – you can listen to him here

Walking Writers Salons are hour-long events in which you will get to meet a Walking Writer and learn from them how they weave writing and walking, and how they interpret their surroundings. Each Salon will include a discussion with the author, inviting questions from the audience, and will include a multiple choice quiz in which winners will receive prizes including copies of WALKING, our own limited edition illustrated chapbook anthology of poems and prose on the theme of Walking and Listening.
